Exhibition stand photography – what you need to know

Exhibition Stand Photography 101

Exhibition stand photography can make or break your corporate event. Before you embark on your quest to capture the best, here is what you need to know so you can get organised. We’re here to help you on the shoot but it will be a LOT better if you do some background work beforehand.

Tell me what you want, what you really really want

It is important to know from the get go what you are trying to achieve when it comes to event stand photography.

Benefits include:

  • Highly visible and memorable branding
  • The ability to ‘section’ events that will help your attendees know where to go (and where to not go, if you know what we mean)
  • The construction of material that will be able to be used in future events, cutting down on costs the more you use it
  • Flexible design that can fit in, and enhance, any space big or small

Possible drawbacks? There’s a few:

  • Flawed design that means colours and images don’t show up well in photograph (we’ll try our best but sometimes there’s only so much we can do!)
  • “Boxing in” of displays that mean cameras struggle with bouncing reflections which can be difficult to edit out
  • Something bulky that is not user, or visitor, friendly be able to make your vision come to life!

Now that you know the pros and cons, let’s talk function.

What are the photos being used for?

What’s your vision here? How are you planning on making the most of your exhibition stand photography? Will these images be appearing on your websites, in your email distribution lists or somewhere else?

Have your end goal in mind and talk to your photography team before they start shooting about where you envision these babies ending up. Work with your team so you are all on the same page. Better prepared photographers mean they will be able to make your vision come to life!

Case Study: Sony Exhibition Stand in Melbourne

Our photography expertise isn’t only limited to event photography, in-fact as part of our conference photography coverage we are also asked to photograph expo booths by not only our clients but also exhibition booth builders.

This job however was a little bit different, that the Sony stand was not part of a conference or exhibition but inside busy Melbourne Highpoint shopping centre.

The Planning Stage

Pre-planning consisted of finding the perfect time that would not disrupt staff and customers, so ideally a morning session was organised. Making contact with the shopping centre management and having the plans of the stand prior to walking into the job made for a perfectly smooth photoshoot.
